On Tuesday, March 28 from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m., the Gephardt Institute of is hosting a Civic Skill Building Event about the role of school boards.
School boards have significant power within schools and school districts, but their methods can feel far removed. Communities and districts spend a lot of time working with questions of who should sit on school boards, and what is important within a school, as well as who should have a stake in the decision making process. School boards also have key roles in deciding what information is offered to students, such as that around social emotional learning and diversity. This Civic Skill Building workshop will center around the inner workings of school boards, why they matter, and how we can more actively engage with them.
We will go through an activity together looking at a school board and district that excites you, so please bring a device to do some research on.
Speaker:
Dr. Karen Hall, Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Saint Louis University
