All American City: Exploring East St. Louis

September 1, 10am- 3:40pm

Hosted by Partners in East St. Louis

East St. Louis, once awarded the title, “All America City,” is now one of the most stigmatized and underappreciated areas around St. Louis. On this excursion, you will learn about the policies that influenced the city’s development, the challenges it faces, as well as the successes it has celebrated through a bus tour led by Dr. Kirkland, a professor at the Brown School and an ESTL native, and a volunteering opportunity in the community garden at the East Side Health District! Partners in East St. Louis (PESTL) aims to develop relationships with the community, provide support through advocacy and service opportunities, and share life stories of East St. Louis residents. Let us introduce you to a city we all love!

This excursion will be available for up to 35 students.
