City Faces is a program run by Jovan Hansman that works with children, teenagers, and young adults living in public housing in inner St. Louis. Through visual arts, music, and academic tutoring, young people learn about problem solving, cooperation, self confidence, introspection, and perspective. We hope that they might be able to discover and develop talents they never knew they had in a safe and welcoming environment.
Bob Hansman, a professor in the architecture school at Washington University in St. Louis, made it his personal goal “to change the course of the children’s lives by offering art as one alternative to selling drugs and becoming involved in gangs, and to teach kids employable skills to better their situation and get them out of the projects.” We hope that City Faces can become a consistent part of their lives, a pillar to support them in times of self-doubt and hardship.
