Genesis Steele is Coordinator for Civic Engagement Programs at the Gephardt Institute. Genesis provides programmatic and administrative support to the Assistant Director for Civic Engagement Education. With a focus on the Civic Scholars and Goldman Fellows programs, she coordinates recruitment, selection, special events, communications, fundraising activities, stewardship, assessment, and related efforts. She also supports special projects related to civic engagement education, such as workshops and collaborative initiatives with campus and/or community partners.
Originally from the greater Seattle area, Genesis is a graduate of the University of Washington with a B.A. in Communication, and a Master’s degree in Education Leadership & Policy Studies with specialization in Higher Education. Professional experiences include program coordination, academic advising/counseling, program facilitation, and work within education and social equity/civil rights focused non-profits.
Genesis’s interest areas include student development, college access and retention, student engagement, leadership development, civic engagement, community empowerment, social justice, and service learning. She also enjoys volunteering, animals, entrepreneurship, sports, music, salsa dancing, and photography.
