Artist Statement
Kitchen Counter, adorned with seashells, bottle caps, post stamps, and tiny junk, uses an array of “little” objects. The work celebrates parental love, including the acts of service and the little sacrifices that parents make for their children. From the tedious act of preparing food to the unpaid bills on the counter, I wanted to showcase the many “little” but essential tasks of parenthood. Such seemingly menial tasks can add up to monumental stress, a feeling I evoked from the maximalist use of clutter to create a sense of overwhelm and tension. Such objects, such as the handwritten note signed by “mom” are real artifacts from my life. May you look upon the work and also think of your loved ones. Let’s all take a moment to reach out to them and return the little acts of love.
