Artist Statement

Hyde Park is a historic district in North St. Louis that is being challenged by the vacancy epidemic. This map is a compilation of little snapshots of the community, its resiliency, and the work of Dream Builders 4 Equity—a nonprofit organization that focuses on building equity and opportunity in predominantly black communities that have experienced neglect and disinvestment. The “Dream Team” signed the map, described their work and their community, and located spaces that hold significance to them; attesting to their strength, potential, and community character.
