Artist Statement

Conversation about gender and sexuality is so often centered around specifying labels, but in this work, I wanted to observe queerness as a rejection of definition and prejudice. While the representation of queer identities in cis- and heteronormative media has increased valuably in recent years, this representation often lacks nuance. The obsession with identity erases the individual. Connection comes through understanding people through the little things that make them up, not flat stereotypes. I’m interested in observing what is beneath the presentation: the pores, freckles, veins, and everything else that keeps us moving and tells our stories.
