Our student workshops provide tools and activities to improve the effectiveness of community engagement within your group.
Gephardt Institute workshops are available to student groups upon request. Workshops make a great addition to general body meetings or can be arranged for special occasions. To ensure facilitator availability, please make your request at least 2 weeks before the desired workshop date.
To request a workshop for your group, simply select one of our offerings and submit the form below. After receiving the submitted form, the institute will reach out to coordinate and confirm.
In this workshop, participants will learn about community engagement basics, consider what the word community signals, work through harmful ways we can show up in communities, and learn about a strengths based approach. Participants will walk away knowing how to do asset mapping.
Length 1.5 hours
In this workshop, participants will consider how their social identities impact the communities in which they engage and their engagement, examine assumptions and expectations, and engage in the process of reflection. Participants will walk away with a framework for reflection to utilize as individuals or with their group of practice.
Length: 1 hour
In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to work through a community engagement scenario with their cohort. Additionally, they will be introduced to several tools to utilize in their community engagement practice including partnership agreements and communication plans.
Length: 1 hour
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the Gephardt Institute’s Guiding Framework for Community Engagement which is based on our 6 core values. Participants will put the framework into action by working through several scenarios as a group.
Length: 1 hour
In this workshop, participants will consider the broader systems that affect the social issue with which they engage. Participants will walk away with an ability to utilize a connection circle to illustrate and consider this with their group of practice.
