February 18, 2025
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Louderman Hall Room 458 (United States)

WHEN: Tuesday, Feb. 18, 6-8 p.m.
WHERE: Louderman 458
HOSTED BY: WashU Sociology (@washusociology)

Washington University’s Department of Sociology presents a film screening of Join or Die. In this feature documentary, follow the half-century story of America’s civic unraveling through the journey of legendary social scientist Robert Putnam, whose groundbreaking “Bowling Alone” research into America’s decades-long decline in community connections could hold the answers to our democracy’s present crisis. Flanked by influential fans and scholars, as well as inspiring groups building community in neighborhoods across the country, join Bob as he explores three urgent civic questions: What makes democracy work? Why is American democracy in crisis? And, most importantly… What can we do about it?  Following the screening, Department representatives will lead a short debrief with reflection activities. This event is open to the broader WashU community and is free to attend.

What is Civic Action Week?

From Feb. 17-23, 2025, Civic Action Week will highlight civic engagement opportunities throughout Washington University. All week across campus, different student groups, faculty, staff, and community partners will host events and other opportunities to engage.  A special thanks to our sponsor, the Women’s Society of Washington University, for their financial support of this endeavor.
