WHEN: Monday, Feb. 21, 5 – 7 p.m.
WHERE: DUC 234
HOSTED BY: WashU Palliative Care and Hospice Club (@washu.wuhpac)
Join us for a panel discussion on the holistic dimensions of aging and end-of-life care as part of WashU’s Civic Action Week. Hosted by the WashU Palliative Care and Hospice Club, this event features perspectives from St. Louis professionals across end-of-life care teams, including chaplains, social workers, doulas, researchers, clinicians, and nurses.
We will explore topics such as the impact of faith on end-of-life care, the role of patients’ families in the caregiving process, and the ways hospice teams navigate challenges like stigma, ageism, and cultural misunderstandings. By addressing these subjects, this panel aims to challenge common stereotypes on aging, encourage open discussions of this unique area of healthcare, and foster an overall deeper commitment to compassionate and equitable civic engagement. Panelists include:
- Brian Carpenter, PhD – Professor of Psychological & Brain Sciences, Co-Director, Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging, WashU Institute for Public Health
- Stephanie Clark, MSW, LCSW – Outpatient Clinic Social Worker
- Patricia Mossop – Bristol Hospice Volunteer Coordinator
- Zoe Seemes- Bristol Hospice Community Liaison
- Moderator: Karla Washington, PhD, LCSW, Associate Professor of Medicine
Following the panel and Q+A, we invite you to join us for food and conversation. This event will provide additional resources for continued education, volunteer opportunities, and community support. This event is open to all, so don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to engage!
What is Civic Action Week?
From Feb. 17-23, 2025, Civic Action Week will highlight civic engagement opportunities throughout Washington University. All week across campus, different student groups, faculty, staff, and community partners will host events and other opportunities to engage. A special thanks to our sponsor, the Women’s Society of Washington University, for their financial support of this endeavor.
