Join the Gephardt Institute and 4theVille for a special Civic Action Week and Black History Month Engage STL Day highlighting the Stories of Black St. Louis. This bus tour is an introduction to the rich Black history of the City of St. Louis from its founding in 1764 to contemporary times. It is an exploration of how Black resilience and resistance are woven into the history of our dear city. The tour is specifically designed to invoke deep reflection about how the St. Louis narrative has preserved its Black history to date, and to stimulate conversation about what can be done to improve the veneration of African American contributions to the region’s identity. The tour visits 6-9 landmarks of Black resistance and activism throughout downtown, midtown and North St. Louis City.

For this bus tour, students should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes and shoes. Transportation to and from campus will be provided.

What is Civic Action Week?

From Feb. 17-23, 2025, Civic Action Week will highlight civic engagement opportunities throughout Washington University. All week across campus, different student groups, faculty, staff, and community partners will host events and other opportunities to engage.  A special thanks to our sponsor, the Women’s Society of Washington University, for their financial support of this endeavor.
