Join Kelly McGowan of Transform 314 and Shavanna Spratt of Da Hood Talks Podcast at the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement to break down what’s going on in St. Louis politics on the night before the municipal elections! They will host Monday Nite Live, a St. Louis-politics-based YouTube series that features drama, foolery, and a sprinkle of policy.
Come early for food and networking with Graduate Impact Forum and WashU Votes. This event is open to all students who are interested in civic dialogue and learning more about local politics. Come join the fun!

Kelly McGowan
Kelly McGowan is a proud St. Louisan and health equity advocate. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from St. Louis University and a Master of Public Health from Washington University in St. Louis, Kelly worked as a Healthy Harlem Coordinator in the Harlem Children’s Zone where she spearheaded nutrition and fitness education among students in Central Harlem. After leaving New York, Kelly returned to St. Louis where she served as the WEDO Wellness Director at the Gateway Region YMCA (WEDO is an acronym for Women Empowered to End Disparities in Obesity). In her role, she worked with North County mothers and caregivers to create healthy changes in their schools and communities.
Kelly has participated in various panels and has been featured in print and radio appearances addressing health equity efforts in the St. Louis region. Most recently, Kelly has founded the new entity Transform 314. Through this effort, Kelly is working to amplify community in local decision-making processes to ensure all St. Louis neighborhoods are designed for their inhabitants to thrive.
Shavanna Spratt
Shavanna Spratt is the Creator & Host of Da Hood Talks Podcast, owner of Da Hood Doula, LLC DBA Da Hood Talks ENT, Founder & Executive Director of Da Hood Connect. She knows the importance of dismantling racial health disparities. As a Certified Doula, over 10 years of employment in the healthcare field and personal experiences as a dedicated mother of a five-year-old and a two-year-old; she has been supporting and advocating for mothers and babies. She has been a member of the Flourish Community Leadership Cabinet working towards eliminating racial disparities in infant mortality by the year 2033.
Shavanna is a 2020 graduate of the Neighborhood Leadership Fellow and Neighborhood Leadership Academy where she came up with a community project of the Podcast, which has been featured in the Saint Louis American. Her passion is empowering others, advancing racial equity, and putting community voices first. She has spent the last 2 years developing and hosting Da Hood Talks Podcast; a platform with the mission to engage, educate, and be a resource to the community. Shavanna knows that community voices are what’s lacking when decisions are being made and is working efficiently to change that narrative by advancing her own and elevating those in her community.
