The Gephardt Institute welcomed Nancy Thomas, director of the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education (IDHE) at Tufts University’s Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life, to WashU for a series of presentations, workshops, and a feature even on “Educating for Democracy in a Time of Division.”
Thomas’ Sept. 28 conversation with Chancellor Andrew D. Martin—before a crowd of WashU students and community members—is now available for to all to watch on the Gephardt Institute website. The duo explored themes around their shared interests in democracy research and political discourse, misconceptions of a liberal arts education, free speech, and above all: How can institutions of higher education contribute to a thriving democracy?
