Alethea Franklin is a Seiden Family Civic Scholar from Tallahassee, FL majoring in psychology and minoring in writing in the College of Arts & Sciences. For her Civic Summer, she was a part of OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates’ intern program, where she was placed in the office of Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez. She was the first point of contact for constituent casework, lobbied for AANHPI mental health legislation, and assisted in the OCA National Convention to promote economic, educational, and professional success for the AANHPI community. Additionally, she worked as a part of PEN America’s freedom to read team researching legislation on book bans across the country.
