Alice Nelms

Engage Democracy Fellow

Alice Nelms (they/she) is an Engage Democracy Fellow at the Gephardt Institute. In this role, they coordinate Grad and Professional Students Votes (WUGPV) and support additional programs under the Gephardt Institute’s Engage Democracy initiative. They are pursuing their Master of Social Work from the Brown School of Social Work with a focus on mental health, sexual health, and healing justice practices. Outside of school, they can be found cooking meals with their friends and searching for anyone under the age of 85 willing to play cribbage with them.

They have six years of experience in community engagement and organizing, primarily here in Missouri. Through their work engaging communities around issues of economic justice, voting access, and racial justice, Alice has witnessed what’s possible when voters can make their voices heard. They are excited to continue engaging their community in democratic processes at WashU and St. Louis!
