Artist Statement
This painting was created upon an early morning walk on a particularly frosty day. I came across these plants that were drooping and splayed out on the ground due to being weighed down by ice. I felt some kind of empathy toward them and was drawn to how humanly they felt. Inspired by their forms, I wanted to use them as a vehicle of expression and emotion. Much of my work examines the boundaries of the alluring and the revolting, exploring forms that generate curiosity from which a slew of various emotions arise. Even the smaller, more seemingly insignificant things can hold a charged energy that should not be overlooked.
