Civic Café: The Intersection of Business and Society with Julian Nicks

October 15, 2024
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Stix House, 6470 Forsyth Boulevard, Clayton, Missouri 63105 (United States)

Civic Café Civic Journey Spotlights connect students with local civic leaders who share the story of how their life experiences shaped their path and led them to the type of civic work they do now. Guests also share their perspective on civic engagement and social change more broadly. Civic Journey Spotlights offer students real-life examples of how to get involved in social change, a deeper understanding of the St. Louis region, and a chance to reflect on their own civic pathways, values, and commitments.

The Gephardt Institute is thrilled to welcome Julian Nicks, a WashU alum who has served as the CEO of LaunchCode, a nonprofit focused on inspiring and training the next generation of tech talent, on Tuesday, October 15 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Stix House. This Civic Café is co-sponsored by Olin Business School.

A St. Louis native, Nicks was appointed CEO of LaunchCode in May 2023. Before that, Nicks was a member of LaunchCode’s board for more than three years and worked for management consulting firm Bain & Co. as a senior manager based in the global firm’s Chicago office. He has also previously worked in roles in the public sector, including as director of transformation for the state of Missouri’s Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development. He also was a policy associate for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. Nicks earned a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in Saint Louis and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

While at WashU, Julian completed the Gephardt Institute’s Goldman Fellows Program, now part of the St. Louis Fellows Program. Julian has also hosted St. Louis Fellows at LaunchCode. We are especially thrilled to host Julian as we launch the 2025 application cycle for the St. Louis Fellows Program. You can find more information about the St. Louis Fellows Program here.
