Gavin Yao

Gavin Yao (he/him), class of 2025, is from Guangzhou, China. He is double majoring in environmental biology and film production, in hopes of becoming a wildlife filmmaker. As the Film and Media Assistant at the Gephardt Institute, he produces video and audio content for web and social media. He is very excited to create videos that introduce the institute’s programs while promoting student and community engagement.

He loves playing basketball, skateboarding, and performing magic with playing cards! His dream is to become a great director who will pass on positive energy and ideas through film and other creative media. His animation, Encounter, was selected for Yale’s Student Film Festival, 2022. 

As a personal project, Gavin is also planning on creating a short film that will introduce everything about WashU that is warm, kind, and fun.
