I Look into the Mirror and See Myself

Artist in The Little Things Art Exhibition

Artist Statement

It is hard to retrieve my childhood memories. They are fuzzy, chaotic, vivid but fading away. When I look into the mirror, I see myself as a child. My reflection is laughing back at me—not satirically, just out of pure happiness. I see myself sitting next to the piano, which I hated but had to practice every day. I see my favorite toys coming to life, surrounding me like I am the main character of this world. I see my loved ones as symbols that I’ll never forget. I see my buckteeth, which used to disgust me. I see my hair being pulled up in a ponytail so tight that I barely look like a girl. I see the most colorful shirt I have ever owned and will never wear again.
