Artist Statement

The immigrant experience lives in the little things: the shards of a culture that remain to members of diaspora, long after we, or our parents, have left the homeland that defined it. “diaspora” is a tribute to the aspects of being Chinese-American that have shaped the person I am today. The three poems are each capable of standing alone, but together, they form a clearer image of the complex forces, tensions, and relationships that come about as a result of diaspora.
