The Gephardt Institute for Public Service would like to welcome our new Gephardt Scholar, Ryan Burton! Burton will be working with us while completing his Masters of Social Work at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work. In 2013, Burton graduated from the University of Kansas, where he studied English and political science. Burton was not only an honor roll student, but was the running back on the University of Kansas football team.
This past year, Burton was a City Year corps member in Boston, MA, working as a classroom aid, tutor and mentor at Roger Middle School, an urban school in the Boston Public School District. In addition, he ran an after school program with a team of corps members, helping to develop the students’ social and emotional learning. Over the course of his year as a corps members Burton completed over 1,700 hours of service. We can’t wait to see what this self-described ‘renaissance man’ will bring to the Gephardt Institute for Public Service, Washington University in St. Louis and the St. Louis community as a whole.
